TAX AND TRUST SPECIALIST

Overview of the Vacancy

Our client is looking to recruit one of the following:

A Tax and Trust Administrator/Assistant or

A Tax and Trust Chartered Legal Executive Trainee (Level 3) or

A qualified Chartered Legal Executive or

A 1-2 year PQE Tax and Trust Solicitor.

The ideal candidate will have a legal background with specific experience in tax and trust and estate administration and knowledge of the law involved.

Job Description

  • Undertake fee earning work in own specialist area. In particular:
    • file creation;
    • generation of suitable client care correspondence;
    • completion of client questionnaires;
    • Conduct matters to conclusion
  • Dealing with processing of AML and engagement information for trusts and other private client work where applicable;
  • Populate and manage key databases and case management software to maintain their accuracy;
  • Registering trusts and estates with HMRC and ensuring all compliance in relation to trust is up to date;
  • Preparation of annual Trust Accounts and submission of these to the trustees for approval;
  • Prepare Trust Tax returns along with relevant computations; online submission of tax returns and providing information to beneficiaries for income tax purposes, where applicable;
  • Prepare Estates Tax returns and relevant computations and online submission of tax returns and preparation of income tax statements for beneficiaries;
  • Dealing with beneficiary income and periodic payments to include obtaining authority and signature for payments and liaising with trustees, banks and brokers in this regard;
  • Preparing trustees resolutions and deeds of appointment of funds;
  • Preparing deeds of appointment and retirement of trustees and dealing with the transfer of assets within the trust into the names of the new trustees;
  • Providing general advice to clients on trustees duties and responsibilities and trustees powers;
  • Providing general advice to clients in relation to income tax, capital gains tax and Inheritance Tax treatment of trusts and estates and on occasion individuals who are beneficiaries of trusts and estates;
  • Correspondence with clients (executors and trustees), beneficiaries and other professionals such as HMRC, brokers etc;
  • Responsibility for the administration of a portfolio of trust clients;
  • Preparation of bills and reviewing billing of own matters;
  • Record time accurately using the firms practice management system;
  • Deputise for Fee Earners in own office in their absence, passing urgent issues to another senior fee earner for guidance (if a small team).

Qualifications

Any of the following:

  • CILEX Level 3 qualification
  • Institute of Paralegal membership
  • ATT
  • STEP
  • A good honours degree

 Essential personal qualities and attributes

  • Legal background with specific experience in trust and estate administration and knowledge of the law involved.
  • Working knowledge of Excel
  • Previous experience of an electronic file management systems
  • Previous experience of preparing sets of trust accounts
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure
  • Methodical approach to tasks
  • Focussed and target driven
  • Well-developed interpersonal, social and communication skills
  • Computer literate with an ability to develop its use in own functional area
  • Enthusiasm and commitment

Desirable skills, knowledge and abilities (Competencies)

  • Previous experience of Evolution Practice Management system
  • Previous experience of CCH Trusts Accounts
  • Previous experience of Isokon software package
  • Experience of preparation of Inheritance Tax returns in relation to chargeable events
